Ready...Set...Go!

Our challenge this week is to create a card in under 30 minutes.  Do you think you can do it?  I wasn't sure I could.  Usually I take forever to decide on ribbon, embellishments and exactly what paper works the best with the card stock I have chosen.  I am not sure if it is cheating, but I thought about this card for weeks before I actually made it.  I pulled out ribbons and embellishments that I thought would work ahead of time so I didn't have to spend my 30 minutes rooting around to find them.

I decided a shape would give a lot of punch to my 30-minute card.  If you have any dies, a shaped card is super easy.  Just decide on the size you want to use, cut your piece of card stock so when folded in half the die fits, and keep the fold of the card stock inside of the die shape.

(I know it isn't the same card, but I didn't have time to take pictures during the process! I only had 30 minutes, you know!)  This is a super quick way to make a shaped card and you can do it with any die you have.  You can make them large or small and then scale your digital image to fit!

I colored the image Winter Sprig (you can get this image for just $1!) using colored pencils.  I didn't even use fancy ones, just plain old colored pencils.  I would have used my Copics, but the card stock the image is printed on isn't good for Copics.  I used a few layers of the same die shape to add some interest.  The sentiment is computer generated and raised for dimension.

A Sticky Situation!

Hello!  Do you have a few stickers laying around that you are dying to use?  Great!  Our new challenge at Meljen's Designs is to use stickers on your creation.  I have some sentiment stickers that I never seem to get around to using, so this was the perfect chance for me to pull them out.

I used Party Donkey and colored him with Copics.  The sentiment sticker is a vinyl peel off.  It is a durable material and is very easy to work with even though it is very detailed.

Shhh...It's a Secret

I created this card for my daughter.  I plan to send it to her sometime during the semester.  It is colored to look like her and our kitty.  Since the challenge this week is Anything Goes this week, it fits the theme perfectly!

I used A Girl and Her Kitty and colored it with Copics.  She loves purple, black and grey so that was the inspiration for the color scheme.  I was able to use up several scraps and create a card that fits her personality perfectly.

Holly Berries

The challenge this week at Meljen's Designs is to use red and green on your project.  I am not as fond of the traditional red and green color combo, so I chose to go with a burgundy/avocado combo instead.

I used one of the recently released images, Christmas Lights Snail, and colored him with Copics.  The lights were colored with Copic Spica pens and have gorgeous sparkle to them.  Unfortunately, you just can't capture that in a picture!  I used a sketch from Taylored Expressions because I needed to jump start my mojo!  The sentiment is from the Stampin' Up! Easy Events set.  I cut the sentiments off of each of the images in the set so I could use them alone if I wanted to.

Giving Thanks

Today is the day that we gather with family and remember all of the things we are thankful for.  Our challenge this week follows that theme.

I used the image Hot Apple Pie and used Copics to color it.  The good news is this image also comes in a colored version.  Perfect for when you need to whip up a card and just don't have a lot of time.

I hope you all enjoy your time with friends and family.  I know I will.

One Word Says It All

Our challenge this week at Meljen's Designs is to use a one-word sentiment.  Can you express everything you want to say on a card in one word?  Then join us for our challenge!

I used Fancy Gift Box and colored it with Copics.  I love this image because you can color it to fit any occasion.  Use red and green for Christmas, silver and gold for a wedding or anniversary, or someone's favorite colors for their birthday.  The sentiment is computer generated.

Are You Scared of Franken Kitty?

How could you be scared of that adorable face?!  Our challenge this week is to create a Halloween themed project.  I fell in love with Franken Kitty at first sight!  I only wish that Halloween lasted longer so I could use all of the great images Melissa came up with this month!

I colored Franken Kitty with Copics.  I got some fun ghoulish green colors just for Halloween projects.  I had to ink around the edges with some Charcoal ink from Stampin' Up! because the white around the image was to bright for the muted papers.
