Something New

At Fabrika Fantasy, our new challenge is to create a project for something new.  I looked through the images and I thought it would be fun to make a card for someone getting a new driver's license.  Getting a driver's license is a rite of passage for teens everywhere, so why not give a special card for the occasion?

I used Traveling Princess for this card and colored her using Copic markers.  I gave her dress a little sparkle using a coloring technique and her crown, buttons, bumper and decoration on the car has Wink of Stella for some added sparkle.

I hope you will join us in our celebration of something new.  You can win some great prizes for playing along.  You don't have to use a Fabrika Fantasy image to play, but if you do, you will be entered in a special drawing just for projects using a Fabrika Fantasy image.  If you win, you win extra images!

Congratulations!

Welcome back to another Rubbernecker Stamps Sweet Sunday post.  For my inspiration this week, I made another card using Mick.  I got a chance to test the new matching die, so I had to give it a try!  This little guy is so perfect for a range of cards.  You don't need to use him for just a birthday card.  I made a congratulations card with him this week.

I colored Mick with Copic markers and layered a couple of circle dies to give the image a lot of weight on the card.  I kept the embellishments simple so Mick can take center stage. The matching die isn't available in the shop just yet, but should be in the near future.  The sentiment is from the Best Friends Etc set.  This set has a great mix of themes and has quickly become my go to set for sentiments.

If you are up for a challenge and a chance to win a gift certificate for the shop, check out the Rubbernecker Stamps challenge.  It runs bi-weekly and has some fun themes for the challenge.  You still have plenty of time to join in the Summertime challenge that is going on right now.  You can always find the current challenge at the top of the blog.

Candy Land Colors

Wow!  It is time for another challenge at Meljen's Designs!  This time we have a color challenge for you.  Take a look at this color swatch photo!

Such bright colors!  When I looked at that photo, I immediately though of the digital stamp, Candy Land Dreams.  So, of course, that is what I had to use for my card!

The stamp is colored with Copics.  My "candy dots" are actually melted pony beads!  It is the latest craze sweeping the crafting world.  If you don't mind a little bit of stinky odor, you can cook up a batch of these yourself.  I used mini beads and melted them at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes.  You can get glitter beads, pearl beads, translucent beads...the list goes on and on!

I am also going to enter this in the Card Makin' Mamas challenge to use Buttons, Bits and Baubles!

I hope you will join us this week for our color challenge!

Card Aisle Inspiraton

Like many people I used to love standing in the card aisle laughing and admiring the many styles of cards for sale.  Once I started making my own, I didn't visit as often.  Laurie at Soapbox Creations has challenged everyone to visit the card aisle once more for inspiration.  I didn't actually make it to the card aisle, but there was  box of cards for sale at work so I had a quick look through them.  As soon as I saw this card, I knew I had found my inspiration.

I loved all of the colors and the implied textures.  The card didn't actually have any texture or dimension at all.

This is my interpretation of the card.

I embossed each of the color panels with a different embossing folder.  I cut the stars on my cricut and embossed them as well.  I sponged ink over each of the stars to make the embossing stand out.  I cut the flourish using a die.  The sentiment is the Small Congratulations from DeNami Design.  I really enjoyed this challenge and will make sure to keep an eye out for inspiration when I am strolling down the card aisle.
